    Below is the Department List with descriptions, skills and notes on each area.

    Please read through and choose which departments you feel would best fit your skills and talents.

    Departments and Descriptors

    Catering

    Description: Volunteer will be responsible for Preparing Food & Presenting Food in a sanitary manner that is aesthetically pleasing, Clean-up, etc.

    Skills: Previous Kitchen or Restaurant experience is a plus. Enjoys the culinary arts.

    Note: Help needed both during the event and during the year from the office as well if applicant is interested

    Children’s Program (Preschool)

    Description: Volunteer will be responsible for registering Children, Carrying out simple age-appropriate programming, Snack times, Guided Reading Circles. Etc.

    Skills: Previous Education or Experience working with Children is a plus! Enjoys young children and is patient & nurturing in nature.

    Note: A Police check and pastoral reference is required for working with Children

     Children’s Program (Ages 6-9)

    Description: Volunteer will be responsible for registering Children, Carrying out age-appropriate programming, Snack times, Etc.

    Skills: Previous Education or Experience working with Children is a plus! Enjoys young children and is patient & nurturing in nature.

    Note: A Police check and pastoral reference is required for working with Children

     

    Children’s Program (Ages 10-12)

    Description: Volunteer will be responsible for registering Children, Carrying out age-appropriate programming, Snack times, Etc.

    Skills: Previous Education or Experience working with Children is a plus! Enjoys children and is patient & nurturing in nature.

    Note: A Police check and pastoral reference is required for working with Children

     Decoration Team (Set-up, Kids Rooms, Hospitality, etc)

    Description: Volunteer will assist in Decorating the Venue. Will be required to help with Set-up on Thursday March 31st, and will work with other departments such as the Children’s Department & Hospitality to decorate as they see fit.

    Skills: Creative, Artistic, Handy

     Donor Care (At event or in office)

    Description: Volunteer will work at the Main Info desk explaining the ‘Friends of the Fest’ donation program to interested individuals as well as accepting and processing donations. During the year, volunteer help is always welcomed by the MissionFest office. Work from the office might include helping with mailings & placing phone calls.

    Skills: Personable and knowledgeable about MissionFest & the Friends of the Fest Program. Ability to utilize a POS machine. Organized & Detailed. A background in Customer Service or Fundraising would be helpful though not necessary.

     Exhibitor Care

    Description: Volunteer will work with the Exhibitors to register them and help them find the location of their booths. Will help Exhibitors (within reason) establish and orient themselves. 

    Skills: Enjoys Customer Service and is able to handle themselves well during the high traffic times of check-in and move out when things can get busy and stressful.

     Facilities Team

    Description: Volunteers will work with the custodians of the venue to assist them in keeping the venue clean & safe. Will be required to patrol the venue periodically checking all areas for potential problems like dirty bathrooms, overflowing garbage cans, etc and report it back to the Facilities Coordinator. Will be needed to do a sweep of the main sanctuary after large groups have used it to prepare it for the next group.

    Skills: Willingness to serve.

     First Aid

    Description: Volunteer will be present in the First Aid room if any accidents or injuries do occur.

    Skills: Must be a trained health care professional - Doctor, Nurse, Paramedic, etc. May apply if currently attending schooling for Medical Training. Minimum requirement is an up-to-date CPR & First Aid Training Certificate.

     Graphic Design

    Description: MissionFest Toronto has ongoing needs for good graphic designers. We will not require one during the duration of the event, but if you would like to be added to our roster of on-call designers that we utilize throughout the year, we would be happy to have you!

    Skills: Knowledge of InDesign Program. Previous education & experience background in the field.

    Hospitality

    Description: Volunteers will manage and maintain the Hospitality Room, preparing and replenishing refreshments for our Speakers & VIP Guests. The Hospitality Room must be a quiet, serene place for our speakers to mentally rest and prepare for their sessions.

    Skills: Professional Demeanour, Food Prep, Able to set-up the room with elegant staging

     Main Info Center

    Description: Volunteers will be the first point of contact for most of the public. Must be knowledgeable about the schedule for the weekend and able to direct those who are lost to the proper rooms for seminars, etc. Maybe required to assist in taking donations through the POS machine.

    Skills: Friendly, approachable & knowledgeable. Will be representing MissionFest in a very public way, so applicant must be very self-aware, professional and mature.

     Men’s Program

    Description: Volunteers will work under the Program Coordinator to work out logistics of the programming, and will be present to greet participants, hand out any materials needed, etc.

    Skills: Preferably the volunteers for this program will be Men! Friendly, approachable, creative, able to participate in some pre-event meetings and planning.

     Office Administration

    Description: This is a position that will be on-going throughout the year from the MissionFest office in Pickering. Applicant must be professional, friendly, good on the phone, organized & detailed.

    Skills: Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications, comfortable performing internet research, making phone calls, assisting with mailings and e-mailing information.

     Parking Coordination

    Description: Parking will be one of our busiest departments at MissionFest this year! It will also need the most volunteers. There will be two different sites for Parking. The Church lot and the Centennial College overflow lot. Parking attendants will need to direct traffic by the use of signs and verbal communication, will be responsible for accepting payment for parking at 1 of the 2 lots, will need to monitor special areas of the parking lot that are reserved for Exhibitors to unload. Will need to ensure that the segregated areas of parking meant only for speakers to park in does not get used by the general public.

    Skills: A servant heart! Able to stand for 3-4 hours at a time. Be authoritative yet friendly and welcoming. Prepared to work in all weather conditions.

    Promotions

    Description: Volunteers will be contacted throughout the year to help MissionFest promote at events where MissionFest is an exhibitor. Concerts, Jesus in the City Parade, Conferences, etc. If volunteer is able & willing, MissionFest occasionally needs volunteer distributors for our Magazine prior to the event.

    Skills: A strong knowledge of and heart for Missions & MissionFest. Ability to speak to the public in a clear and concise way. Creative in their approach to Marketing & Promoting and willing to share their ideas with MissionFest Staff.

     Security Team

    Description: Volunteers will be required to patrol the venue making their presence known as a deterrent to any trouble arising. Will report any issues concerning the venue to the Facilities Team to prevent accidents or hazards. Will function as crowd control during peak periods. May be required to help out other departments such as Ushers, Facilities or Parking. Will be called upon to help resolve any issue or conflicts that may arise.

    Skills: A background in security or law enforcement would be a great, though not required. Authoritative yet friendly and welcoming. Skilled communicator that is able to resolve conflicts verbally.

     Seminars

    Description: Volunteer will be the ‘Host’ of their session. Volunteer will be required to kick-off the session, requesting that everyone take their seats and quiet down. Announce that Cell Phones should be set to silent out of respect for the speaker and what he/she has come to share. Introduce the speaker, assist in handing out any materials, etc. See session through to the end.

    Skills: Comfortable speaking in front of a group. Confident, friendly, enthusiastic.

     Transportation

    Description: Volunteers will help transport out-of-town Speakers to and from the Airport & Hotels, may also be needed to help MissionFest transport materials from the Office in Pickering to the Church in Scarborough. During the year, MissionFest occasionally needs help with Distributing the MissionFest Magazine to local churches prior to the event.

    Skills: A Driver’s Licence & Vehicle

    Note: Volunteers who have a larger vehicle like a cube van, truck or mini van would be a huge asset!

     Tech Department

    Description: Volunteer will work with Tech Coordinator to ensure that all Audio/Visual runs smoothly and any problems that arise are corrected swiftly.

    Skills: A background in A/V is a must! A/V, PowerPoint, set up sound equipment on stage, run sound-checks, etc

     Ushers

    Description: Volunteers will need to be present 30-40 minutes before large events take place in the Sanctuary. They will be stationed outside the doors of the Main Sanctuary to draw attention to the fact that programming will soon start! They will greet participants, and answer any questions they may have about the speaker or topic of the session. During the session, they will sit strategically around the auditorium in case handouts or offerings need to be given out or taken up.

    Skills: Friendly, Approachable, Confident & Mature

     Volunteer Care Team

    Description: This small team of volunteers will be responsible for appreciating, encouraging and caring for all the other volunteers’ needs that may arise. This team will patrol the whole venue, checking in on each department to see that all is running smoothly. If a department has a need, this team will try to meet it. If a sign needs to be made, someone needs prayer, the parking volunteers need a hot coffee, this team will provide it! Will be stationed in the Volunteer Check-In room.

    Skills: Able to problem solve, work effectively with little supervision and is nurturing by nature.

     Women’s Program

    Description: Volunteers will work under the Program Coordinator to work out logistics of the programming, and will be present to greet participants, hand out any materials needed, etc.

    Skills: Preferably the volunteers for this program will be Women! Friendly, approachable, creative, able to participate in some pre-event meetings and planning.

     Youth Program

    Description: Volunteers will work under the Program Coordinator to work out logistics of the programming, and will be present to greet participants, hand out any materials needed, etc.

    Skills: Preferably the volunteers for this program with be Youth / Young Adults, or individuals have experience working with youth & young adults. Friendly, approachable, creative, able to participate in some pre-event meetings and planning.
